Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian luxury industry fashion house. The company was started by Italian designers Domenico Dolce (born 13 August 1958 in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily) and Stefano Gabbana (born 14 November 1962 in Milan).

Dolce & Gabbana had two central lines (D&G and Dolce & Gabbana) until 2012, when the lines merged under the label Dolce & Gabbana.

Dolce&Gabbana

Dolce&Gabbana (spelled without spaces, unlike the name of the company) specializes in luxury items influenced more by designers and is more formal and 'timeless', responding to long-term trends as well as seasonal changes. It also sells sunglasses and corrective eyewear, purses, and watches. In April 2009 it launched its make-up range, unveiled at Selfridges, London by Scarlett Johansson. In February 2010, it was announced that American singer Madonna would design a collection of sunglasses titled MDG, set to be released in May of that year. It also has a set of fragrances for men and women. An example is 'The One' which is a perfume by Dolce&Gabbana.

D & G

D & G was a difussion line. It is the younger, more flamboyant diffusion line of the brand. Unlike Dolce&Gabbana, D&G sells watches as well as clothing: watches are manufactured by Naloni and Binda Group. In 2011, Dolce & Gabbana decided to abolish the D & G-line in order to put "more strength and energy" into their other collections.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga is a French fashion house founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga, a Spanish designer, born in the Basque CountrySpain. He had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as "the master of us all" by Christian Dior. His bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet ultra-modern shapes were trademarks of the house. The House of Balenciaga is now owned by the French multinational company Kering. Balenciaga's current Creative Director is Alexander Wang.

Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first boutique in San Sebastián, Spain in 1918, which expanded to include branches in Madrid and Barcelona. The Spanish royal family and the aristocracy wore his designs, but when the Spanish Civil War forced him to close his stores, Balenciaga moved to Paris.
Balenciaga opened his Paris couture house on Avenue George V in August 1937, and his first runway show featured designs heavily influenced by the Spanish Renaissance. Balenciaga's success in Paris was nearly immediate. Within two years, the French press lauded him as a revolutionary, and his designs were highly sought-after. Carmel Snow, the editor of Harper's Bazaar was an early champion of his designs.
Customers risked their safety to travel to Europe during World War II to see Balenciaga's clothing. During this period, he was noted for his "square coat," with sleeves cut in a single piece with the yoke, and for his designs with black (or black and brown) lace over bright pink fabric.

Gucci

Gucci is an Italian fashion and leather goods brand, part of the Gucci Group, which is owned by French company Kering formerly known as PPR. Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921. Gucci generated about € 4.2 billion in revenue worldwide in 2008 according to BusinessWeek magazine and climbed to 41st position in the magazine's annual 2009 "Top Global 100 Brands" chart created by Interbrand. Gucci is also the biggest-selling Italian brand. Gucci operates about 278 directly operated stores worldwide (as of September 2009) and it wholesales its products through franchisees and upscale department stores. In the year 2013 the brand was valued at $ 12.1 Billion USD with a sales of $4.7 billion USD. As per forbes list 2013 Gucci was ranked 38 most valuable brand.

A turnaround of the company devised in the late 1980s made Gucci a global contender and notable fashion label. In October 1995, Gucci went public and had its first initial public offering on the AMEX and NYSE for $22 per share. November 1997 also proved to be a successful year as Gucci acquired a watch licensee, Severin-Montres, and renamed it Gucci Timepieces. The firm was named "European Company of the Year 1998" by the European Business Press Federation for its economic and financial performance, strategic vision as well as management quality. Gucci headquarters are in Florence, other world offices are in Milan, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Japan, and New York. PPR headquarters are in Paris.

Chanel

Chanel S.A. is a French, privately held company owned by Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an early business partner of the couturière Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel S.A. is a high fashion house that specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods and fashion accessories. In her youth, Gabrielle Chanel gained the nickname Coco from her time as a chanteuse. As a fashion designer, Coco Chanel catered to women’s taste for elegance in dress, with blouses and suits, trousers and dresses, and jewellery (gemstone and bijouterie) of simple design, that replaced the opulent, over-designed, and constrictive clothes and accessories of 19th-century fashion. The Chanel product brands have been personified by fashion models and actresses, including Inès de la Fressange, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Vanessa Paradis, Nicole Kidman,Anna Mouglalis, Lucía Hiriart, Hope Portocarrero, Audrey Tautou, Keira Knightley and Marilyn Monroe.
The House of Chanel is known for the “little black dress”, the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, and the Chanel Suit. Chanel’s use of jersey fabric produced garments that were comfortable and affordable. Chanel revolutionized fashion — high fashion (haute couture) and everyday fashion (prêt-à-porter) — by replacing structured-silhouettes, based upon thecorset and the bodice, with garments that were functional and at the same time flattering to the woman’s figure.
In the 1920s, the simple-line designs of Chanel couture made popular the "flat-chested" fashions that were the opposite of the hourglass-figure achieved by the fashions of the late 19th century — the Belle Époque of France (ca. 1890–1914), and the British Edwardian Era (ca. 1901–1919). Chanel used masculine colours, such as grey and navy blue, to denote feminine boldness of character. The clothes of the House of Chanel featured quilted fabric and leather trimmings; thequilted construction reinforces the fabric, the design and the finish, producing a garment that maintains its form and function while being worn. An example of such haute couture techniques is the woolen Chanel suit — a knee-length skirt and a cardigan-style jacket, trimmed and decorated with black embroidery and gold-coloured buttons. The complementary accessories were two-tone pump shoes and jewellry (gemstone and bijouterie), usually a necklace of pearls, and a leather handbag.

Versace

There are several lines that make up the Versace brand: Atelier Versace, Versace Couture, Versace Sports, Versace Home Collection, Versace Jeans Couture, Versace Collection, Young Versace, and Versus. In addition to clothing and accessories, it also operates a hotel, the Palazzo Versace. The hotel, which opened in September 1998 on Another Palazzo Versace is currently under development in Dubai, scheduled to open in late 2013. On June 25, 2010, Versace announced the launch of Damac Towers interior design by Versace Home in downtown Beirut.
Versace Couture is the house's main line and contains high-end, often handmade apparel, jewellery, watches, fragrances, cosmetics, handbags, and home furnishings. Traditionally, this is the only line presented on the runway. Versace is usually shown during Milan's fashion week, but this has not been strictly the case in recent years. Couture dresses in this line cost about $10,000 and suits cost approximately $5,000. Donatella Versace directly heads this line and designs much of it.
The other Versace label, named Versace Collection, and again overseen by Donatella Versace, is the second high-end line of the group and is aimed at young and fashionable people. The logo is discreet and consists of a hollowed V surrounded by the classic Versace Greek frieze, or is signed with the word "collection" written in black at the bottom of the name Versace, which is written in hollowed letters or in white.
The Versace Sport line was stopped in 2008 owing to counterfeiting, which damaged the Versace group image. Lady Gaga was announced as the face of Versace 2014, reaching to fashion heights.
Versace Jeans Couture, renamed Versace Jeans, is a casual clothing line that focuses on informal clothing, high-end denim, and classic Versace print shirts. It is readily available and comparably affordable but has been discontinued in the United States for the most part. This line is distributed through 56 boutiques and flagship stores, and 1,800 multi-brand points of sale, including Internet-based shops. Versace Sport encompasses active wear and accessories.

Boutiques:
As of August 2013, 82 boutiques operate throughout the world, and the first boutique that was opened outside of Italy was in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1991.
